The Bektashis were the most widespread, influential and powerful of the Sufi brotherhoods that permeated the Ottoman Empire. They are known for their popularity among the military elite and especially in the fearsome, ferocious Janissary Corps of the Ottoman Army. The choice of this particular Aya ุขูุฉ from the Holy #Quran (ุณูุฑุฉ ุงูุตู Surah 61, verse 13) corroborates this.
The carpet consists essentially of a lengthy calligraphy scroll on multiple rows, with evident veneration of the Holy Names of Allah ุงููู ุฌูู ุฌูุงูู and the Prophet Muhammad in particular. Further symbolic motifs attest to Bektashi provenance, such as the recurrence of ูู โHeโ referring to the Almighty and the geometric shapes.
It miraculously survives intact as a very vibrant masterpiece of Islamic Art and as an emblem of pure luxury in pure silk. The quality of weave is reflected in the lovingly braided fringes and end kilims.
The purplish tone and dichromatic ornament (brick red and golden beige) for the calligraphy and ornament are eye catching. My favourite element is how the religious verse in the central row is framed by a band of crescent ๐ and star โญ shapes. The ๐ฉ๐๐ช๐ก๐ช๐ฉ๐ script is gorgeous.

โI practically furnished my entire home with carpets from Hadi. The process was not only a joy but it was also a learning experience for me. Hadi was super helpful in identifying the right pieces for my home that would both work with my taste, budget, sizes required and that would be a good investment for my family. Hadiโs collection is second to none, and his knowledge and service is truly the blessing on top.โ Amr Banaja, Public Investment Fund, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia ๐ธ๐ฆ
As a carpet collector of 30 years, I have noticed a decline in the amount of truly unique and high quality carpets on the market. I have also noted a decline in the knowledge of merchants, generally. Hadi Maktabi stands against this trend as a both a curator for and an educator of his clients. His offerings are well-researched, museum quality carpets that are both singular and expertly chosen. In dealing with Hadi, I have experienced excellent communication, a high standard of service and extremely pleasant interactions. Warren D., Hong Kong ๐ญ๐ฐ
