A poshti from the atelier of the legendary Grand Master Mohamamd Dabir Al Sanaye of Kashan. It is not signed but I have seen an exact twin to this that is. The Manchester kork lambswool, the exquisite dye materials, and the fine weave are all in line with Dabir's excellent production. I have handled two dozen of his signed works and this is as good as any.
We see here a Heron bird, crane like with its long neck, bending forwards and around a flailing tree to pluck a rose from the ground. It feels like one of the more accomplished scenes in Safavid miniature painting from the age of Shah Tahmasp. The Heron is symbolic here because the Qajar Shahs of Persia all wore a Heron feather in their turbans and crowns. People mistakenly think it is a peacock feather but it's a Heron in fact.
The bird is framed by a ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ณ๐ข๐ฃ niche supported by two slender columns. The choice of colors is absolute magic as well. Perfect condition.
