A Manchester Wool Kashan Rug
Number 24867 Size 200 x 140 Origin Kashan
Style Tabriz Hajji Jalili Materials Manchester Wool Age Circa 1900 - 1910
A charming mihrab and tree of life pattern executed with a dazzling color combination reliant on an attractive turquoise border and a golden field that is offset with the alluring array of flowers that are in various shades of pink and red. The main attraction to collectors however remains the soft wool with which it was woven, so called Manchester wool because it was spun to tremendous degree in the textile mills of England. This places the rug towards the end of the second phase of "Mohtasham" production, i.e. the first decade of the 20th century. This is a critical phase as it links 19th century Kashan Mohtasham style to the dominant "Dabir" style of the 1920s that continues to dictate Kashan carpet aesthetic.
