PERSIAN VILLAGE
An Early Ivory Bakhshayesh
Number Size 460 X 350 Origin Bakhshayesh, Northwest Persia
Style Kaf Sada Materials Wool Age Circa 1850
Rare & quite striking, the undyed ivory wool offers a sharp contrast to the deep madder red of medallion and border. The medallion includes cloud band and swastika motifs commonly associated with a genre of Caucasian Kazak rugs, suggesting this stunning carpet was woven early in the 19th century when both areas were under common Persian rule before the Russian conquest of 1828.
